CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION
ZONING ADMINISTRATION/ORDINANCE OFFICER
The Caledonia Township Board of Trustees shall designate a person to administer all Ordinances (Zoning and Township) adopted by Caledonia Township, precisely as they are written. There is no authority to deviate from the provisions of the Ordinances, or to modify the requirements.
Interpersonal communication and educational skills that allow for the people of Caledonia Township to understand and comply with the spirit, intent, and written statements of all Ordinances.
Ability and desire to become familiar with the enforcement process.
Ability to communicate by telephone and typed letter.
Shall attend meeting upon request by the Board of Trustees, the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Be available to respond to citizens request by phone (you provide), email, or mail.
Administer the Ordinances, as provided for, uniformly and without prejudice.
Respond to all reports or alleged violations within ten (10) days of receipt.
Investigations will be in person, on site and, whenever possible, with the person responsible for the violation. Occasions not in person shall be very rare and with reasonable cause.
Written communication of the meeting/inspection will be made which contains a summary of the verbal communication and a deadline for the correction of any violation found. All written communications will have a copy sent to:

The Township Clerk and supervisor
The person reporting the violation shall be notified within ten (10) days that the alleged violation is being addressed.
Assist citizens in determining what forms and procedures apply to proposed request and land use charges.
Assist citizens in the proper completion of required permit application forms.
Review and investigate applications to determine compliance within provisions of Ordinances. Visit the site to verify all setbacks.
Issue the appropriate permit when all provisions of the Ordinances are in compliance. If the use is not in compliance with the Ordinance, the applicant shall be notified and assisted with an appropriate procedure, if the applicant so chooses.
Ensure the land uses within the Township are in compliance with all Ordinances.
Inspect new sites within thirty (30) days of the start of any construction, or use, to ensure compliance with the specific permit that was issued. A final inspection shall be made and documented, including completed structure(s) and surrounding landscape.
Create and implement a clear and concise method to report the status of each activity and violation to the Township Board at least seven (7) days prior to the monthly Board of Trustee regular meeting.
When identified/reported, monitor non-conforming uses.
Investigate alleged violations of the Ordinances and enforce corrective measures when required.
Defend decisions of the office before the Zoning Board of Appeals as needed.
Carry our directives of the Board of Trustees, Planning Commission, and Zoning Board of Appeals.
Maintain the zoning maps, text, and office records up-to-date by recording all amendments and retaining all official zoning documents. If needed, current Ordinances will be available to distribute to the public. Contact the Township Clerk to obtain current Ordinances for distribution.
Propose solutions to any problems encountered in administering the Ordinances.
Establish and follow rules and procedures for all Ordinance issues.
Provide Ordinance(s) information to citizens and public agencies upon request. Contact the Township Clerk to obtain Ordinance information for distribution.
The Ordinance Officer shall obtain a copy of all lot splits from the Assessor during the month of January for the previous calendar year and will report all findings to the Township Board.
